Ian Clarke

I started my working life as a Physics teacher having obtained a Physics degree at Durham University and my Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Newcastle University. My probation year was at Heworth Comprehensive School (now Heworth Grange Comprehensive) in Gateshead teaching Physics and Mathematics. I then spent 6 years as Head of Physics at Hamonds Grammar School (now the Nicholas Hamond Academy) in Swaffham, Norfolk. After 7 years of teaching I thought, ‘I’ve spent 7 years as a pupil, 4 years as a student and 7 years as a teacher – perhaps I should try something else’.

In 1978 I left teaching to sell drugs! Legally, of course, first for Parke Davis (now part of Pfizer) and then for Travenol (now Baxter Healthcare). I’ve been in every operating theatre in East Anglia demonstrating urology products!

In 1982 I joined BT as a salesman. A year later I was sales manager in Cambridge and held various sales management positions until 1992 when I led a team of internal organisational development consultants.

In 1994 I set up my own organisational development consultancy, Effectiveness through Awareness, which continued to operate until 2012. In 2004 I joined forces with Steve Westall and we founded Be Business Wise Ltd. This became Pansophix Ltd which published downloadable Useful Guides on business and personal development topics.

In 2012 we sold the business to the Business Learning Foundation and I am now operating as a sole trader.

I am a volunteer Watchkeeper for NCI Felixstowe.

I'm married to Anne, have four children, three step children and 11 grand children.
